Dr. Hector M. Callejas is an IDEAL Provostial Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. He earned his Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. His interdisciplinary research and teaching cover ethnic studies, anthropology, and area studies. He uses ethnography and theory to examine the production, governance, and effects of race and Indigeneity, with a focus on social movements in the Americas. He has two research areas: Indigenous rights advocacy in El Salvador (Central America) and environmental justice activism in California (United States). His work uncovers the persistence of colonialism and the possibilities for decolonization in contemporary society.
Hector is a mestizo (White and Indigenous mixed-race) Latino from Sacramento, California. His family immigrated from El Salvador and Guatemala during the 1980s. |
